The plot of “Desperado”
The film tells the story of a nameless mariachi who seeks revenge on the right-handed gunfighter who killed his lover. He arrives in a small Mexican town and meets and falls in love with a bookish woman named Carolina, who runs a small hotel where he is staying. However, the townsfolk tell him that the man he is looking for, Bucho, has left town. The mariachi agrees to kill Bucho’s henchman, Sanchez, in exchange for information on Bucho’s whereabouts.
While waiting for Sanchez at the bar, the mariachi meets Buscemi’s character – an American expatriate named Pick-Up who provides him with a gun. When Sanchez arrives, the two men face off and the nameless mariachi kills him with a series of shots. Bucho then sends his enforcer El Mariachi to kill the mariachi, but El Mariachi shoot him dead as well. Bucho kills Carolina in front of her young son Cucuy as vengeance for her assisting el Mariachi.
El Mariachi then tracks down Bucho to a nightclub/brothel where he opens fire with an AK-47 assault rifle, intent on revenge for Carolina’s death. During the ensuing gunfight, nearly everyone in the club is killed except for Buscemi’s character and his girlfriend (played by Salma Hayek). The mariachi leaves them behind and escapes into the night.
