Early Life and Career
John Wayne was born Marion Robert Morrison on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. He was the son of Clyde and Mary Morrison, who worked a farm. When Wayne was nine years of age, his family moved to Palmdale, California. There he attended school and became interested in acting when he took part in school plays. He attended Glendale Union High School where he graduated in 1925. After graduation he worked for a short time as a laborer for the Los Angeles Red Car Film Company.
