As of 2017, eleven cast members have died, most recently actor Jonathan Winters who voiced Papa Smurf.

The franchise has been adapted into several different media, including television series (both animated and live-action), films (both direct-to-video and theatrical), video games, and toys.

The Smurfs: Smurf Quest is an upcoming American computer-animated fantasy comedy film directed by Kelly Asbury and written by Jordan Kerner, Gene Grillo, and J. David Stem. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Animation and The Kerner Entertainment Company, and will be released on August 5, 2021, by Columbia Pictures.
