The Spy Kids movies
The first Spy Kids movie was released in 2001, and was a huge hit with both kids and adults. It spawned two sequels, Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams in 2002 and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003. All three movies were directed by Robert Rodriguez and starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as the titular spy kids.
In 2011, Rodriguez announced that he was working on a fourth Spy Kids movie, which would again star Vega and Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the movie was put on hold indefinitely.
In 2015, it was announced that Rodriguez had sold the rights to the Spy Kids franchise to Miramax, who then announced plans to produce a TV series based on the movies. The TV series, titled Spy Kids: Mission Critical, premiered on Netflix in April 2018. It is unknown if Vega or Sabara will have any involvement in the TV series.
The first Spy Kids movie
